attic exhaust fan

An attic exhaust fan will mount in the gable end of the roof itself or just below the ridge or peak.  With an attic exhaust fan, roof-mounted fans or ventilators are the most effective type. You will have to remove a few shingles to do a proper installation and cut a round hole into the roof.

Remember if you have a steep roof pitch, this will have an impact on how easy your attic exhaust fan can be installed.  An electrically-powered fan is usually equipped with a thermostat that turns on the fan when your attic reaches a certain temperature and will shut off after your attic space is cooled down to a normal level again.

With an attic exhaust fan, you have to be aware of local building codes such as the national electrical code that sets the basic standards regarding the type of device and wiring you can use, and it also mentions specific locations. Remember to shop the internet and check with your local building inspection office for any permits that may be required.
